Dwarka Expressway, Delhi: Route Details, Location, Length, Speed Limit, Toll Fee and FAQ

The Dwarka Expressway (NH-248BB, also called the Northern Peripheral Road) is an access-controlled, high-speed corridor linking Delhi and Gurugram. It was built as an alternative to the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. It is a flyway for much of its length, with about 75% of its 28.5 km elevated.

Route details and location

  • It begins at Shiv Murti on NH-8 and passes by Terminal 3 of the airport.
  • It continues to Barthal Chowk at the Sector 25/26 junction in Dwarka, then turns toward Gurugram. This is based on NHAI’s national highway notification.
  • In Gurugram it runs through Sectors 102 to 113 and ends at Kherki Daula.
  • The project was split into four packages, two each in Delhi and Gurugram.
  • It connects to the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway through a cloverleaf interchange.

Speed limit

  • Gurugram traffic police have enforced 100 km/h for light vehicles and 80 km/h for heavy vehicles.
  • The permissible limit was reported as 100 km/h, even though many motorists were doing 120–150 km/h.
  • NHAI is installing about 60 speed and surveillance cameras, so overspeeding is likely to be fined.
  • The 80 km/h figure you may see elsewhere comes from an older pre-opening notification.

Toll fee

  • Private cars pay up to ₹220 one-way and ₹330 return.
  • If you enter at Bijwasan first, you pay there and nothing more at Kherki Daula. If you enter via Kherki Daula first, you pay the difference at Bijwasan.
  • The Kherki Daula toll for private cars rose from ₹80 to ₹95.
  • Pass options exist for regular commuters.

Why was it built?

To relieve congestion on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and other arterial roads.

Who built it?

NHAI built it, with an estimated cost of around ₹10,000 crore. Another source puts it at ₹9,000 crore.

Why did it take so long?

The project took over 18 years because of land acquisition issues and legal battles.

Can I use a bike or auto?

No, two-wheelers and autos are banned on the Haryana section. Slower vehicles can use the service lanes.

Is tolling automated?

Yes. It was planned with a fully automated tolling system and an intelligent transportation system.
